LISBETH2014: Let’s secure our devices

Information security through free software: 90 hours of digital creativity.

The “LISBETH” course aims at guiding the girls to secure their PCs and smartphones, from a proper and optimized password management, to antivirus products utilization, to Android apps permission awareness, to the backup of important data to protect us against devices failure/malfunctioning/loss.

The course consists of the following steps:

  • 1. We use passwords every day, many times a day. Do we do it the right way, or do we use the same password for all the services? Let’s learn the basic rules of the simplest security tool.
  • 2. I will never be able to remember all these passwords! Let’s learn how to use a password manager to simplify our life still keeping good quality standards for the passwords we use.
  • 3. One password is not enough to protect our computer. Let’s use multifactor authentication! Let’s secure our Google, Facebook and, why not, also LastPass accounts.
  • 4. Antivirus & Co… Help or trouble!?
  • 5. I want to install a new app on my smartphone, but I don’t understand a word about all the required permissions! Let’s become aware of all the data we are giving access to a new app when installing it.
  • 6. Help!! I lost my smartphone: I lost my holidays pictures, all the contacts in my addressbook and other important documents I did not save on my PC yet. Let’s learn how to protect us with a simple action: backup.
  • 7. Is everything clear? Then let’s create a video to teach our friends, as well as classmates, relatives, the more, the better! Let’s publish our experiences on www.ragazzedigitali.it
